| American Beauty | The best film of 1999 is also one of my best films. American Beauty put a mirror in front of all people, especially American people, but I think you can say all people from America and Europe. Every theme in this movie has to do with things in the real world, but they are not very usual in the real world or people don't talk about it too much. Homo-sexuality, drugs, Nazi's, adultery and midlife crisis are a few of the themes in this great tragicomedy. The first-time director Sam Mendes delivers us a masterpiece with his directing, the cinematography, the score from Thomas Newman, of course the original screenplay and the great cast, especially the performances of Kevin Spacey, Annette Bening and Wes Bentley. | |||||||||||||||||||

| Lester � un quarantenne in crisi e fallito, nella famiglia come nel lavoro. Vive in un quartiere di benestanti, fuori New York. Un quartiere di gente 'tremendamente' comune. In un finale preordinato e raccontato dalla voce del protagonista fin dall'inizio, si scioglie una storia senza speranza.
